People in Goa are extremely tolerant of different religions and respect
different religious faiths. Most of the Hindu, Christian and other religious
festivals are celebrated in the same manner as around India, but with a Goan
flavour. The festival are celebrated through out the year. Most of the Goan
festivals are Jatras (feasts) of the local or family deity celebrated at the
temple, called Devasthan. With a majority of Hindus (60%) followed by the
Christians (30%) and other minorities (10%); most of the Hindu and Christian
festivals are celebrated in Goa with great religious fervour. Goa organizes
many theme events that are extremely popular among the locals as well as the
tourists. Some of these festivals are typical of Goa and can be as Goan
