About Canacona

The far south of Goa is Canacona district, was among the last parts of the
territory to be absorbed into the Novas Conquistas, and has retained a
distinctly Hindu feel and culture. The Canacona region was part of the
dominions of the Kingdom of Soonda, who itself a remnant of the powerful
Vijayanagar Empire of Hampi. It is the wealth of virgin greenery and idyllic
beaches, till the 1990s Canacona was virtually untouched by the bustling
tourism culture thriving in other parts of Goa. A beautiful part of Goa on
which it is proud of.

Shopping
As
far as the shopping items are concerned, you will get the opportunity to
choose from a wide range of artifacts and momentos. Artifacts made of shell
work, bamboo work, brassware, curios and old coins, trinkets made of stones
and corals, artifacts made of papier-mâché, carved furniture,
and beachwear are some of the popular entries in shopping carts.
Climate of Canacona
Winter
- During the winter months of December and January, the Canacona
weather becomes a temperate one with drop in temperature and humidity
levels. Temperatures linger in the range of 24C-27C.
Clothing - Clothing requirements are simple and are hardly affected
by climate change across seasons. The ones planning to frolic in the seas or
bask in the sunny beaches should bring along beachwear and other
accessories.
Summer - The summer weather in
Canacona lasts from March to May and is mildly warm. During the peak summer
month of May temperatures may go up to 33C. However the monsoon season from
June to September brings in plenty of rainfall with an increase in humidity
levels.
How To Reach Canacona
Road
- The regions main transport artery is the NH-17, which crawls
across the Sahyadri and Karmali Ghats towards Karnataka via the district
headquarters, Chaudi. Bus services between here and Margao are quite
frequent.
Rail - For the last year or two, it has been
possible to reach Canacona by direct "Superfast" Express trains
from Mumbai, Panjim and Mangalore .
