
The Rangado river flows on its east while the Madhel river on its north.
Bison, wild bear, deer, leopards, serpents and birds are seen in numbers in
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in Goa. This jungle resort not
only offers Goa wildlife tours in abundance but it also features residential
cottages that can be rented by tourists looking to really get in the thick
of Goa wildlife. It is the smallest of the wildlife sanctuaries of Goa,
covering around 8 sq. kms. The sanctuary includes a botanical Garden, fenced
deer park and zoo. One can find bamboo plantations along with trees like
Terninalia Crenulata also known as Matti, Rosewood, Lagerstroemia, Kindall,
Jamba, Mimusops, etc. The State Tree Terninalia crenulata (Matti) and
Rosewood are common here. Others are Lagerstroemia (Naked Maiden of the
Forest / Nano), Kindall, Jamba, Mimusops, Saraca indica etc. The zoo
contains excellent examples of the big cats of the area, various deer and
other animals in their natural habitat. The deer safari park contains many
types of deer, some common to the region of Goa, others much less common. It
covers 8-sq-kms of deciduous forest Bondla is a miniature zoo of caged
animals and birds and a popular picnic destination for locals. The wild
animals that are housed here include Panthers, Jungle Cats, Leopard Cats,
various species of Deer (Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Barking Deer
and Mouse Deer), Wild Boar, Crocodiles, Snakes and Malabar Giant Squirrels.
Spread over an area of around 8 square kilometers, the Bondla wildlife
sanctuary is the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. Nature Education Center
in the sanctuary is an effort to bring nature close to people.
